Mowers and all club members, (field image for wildflowers at bottom)
Because of the drought conditions and the probability Elkhart will not have rain for at least 8 to 10 days please note the following:
- This is also usually when the turf grows slower because of less rain, shorter daylight hours we will only mow once per week usually Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday so the flight-line is ready for the weekend.
- We have activated the irrigation/sprinklers to water the parking and prep areas ---during the drought they will be the most fragile areas as we drive and traffic on them. The flight-line may go dormant but our planes should not cause damage. If the sprinkler units are near where you intend to land do move them.
- If you are scheduled to mow do come to the field and if the first few passes with the John Deere do not show any noticeable results do put it away (don’t waste fuel and your time). The Ford results may be the same; however because the Orange and Blue areas are only mowed every 14 days it is important to mow those areas as scheduled to keep seeds from developing and being blown onto our desired landing areas. The schedule for the Orange and Blue areas is listed to the right of the schedule below. The diagram for the mowing areas Orange and Blue is fastened to the west side of the big shed.
- It is hot and if you have forgotten your liquid refreshments and become dehydrated there is water and drinks in the cooler (no ice though).
- We may only have another 6 weeks of nice flying before evening daylight shortens --- do come out to fly. Club members have put in much work at our site, it is really nice --- we need to enjoy it.
